Contribute 3 Tutorial
1.0 Connect to Contribute Publishing ServerBefore you can use Contribute 3 you must make a connection to the Contribute Publishing Server. To set up the connection load up Contribute 3 and in the "Address:" bar located at the top enter "connect:cps.aa.csulb.edu" or click on this link.
When asked for a username and password, enter your Campus ID for the username and your TIM password (same as Beachboard/MyCSULB) for the password. If you are not sure what your password is, you can attempt to recover your password by following these instructions or contact the Technology Help Desk at (562) 985-4959.
After you press OK, it will automatically validate the connection. Please wait for this process to fully complete.
You will be presented with this dialog, click on OK.
You are now ready to begin editing your web site with Contribute3. 2.0 Editing a pageWhen Contribute 3 loads up, you will be presented with a welcome screen. To edit your website click on "CSULB Division of Academic Affairs".
Use the Contribute browser to navigate to the page you wish to edit. Once you are at that page click on the "Edit Page" button in the upper left corner. If you do not see the "Edit Page" button, then you do not have access to the site. To get access to the site, please fill out a Service Request.
After clicking "Edit Page", you may edit anything under LAYOUTBODY. This teal box means, it is an editable region, where content mangers can make appropriate changes to their web site.
2.1 Check SpellingTo check the spelling on a page click on Format -> Check Spelling.
2.2 Format fontOnce you have added text to a page you will be able to format it in a variety of ways. First, highlight the text then select one of the options located at the top. Here you are able to select a style, font type, font size, bold, italicize, change the justification, ororder the text in a list.
2.3 Change the titleTo change the title of a page click on "Page Properties" located at the top.
Under "Page Properties" change the text in the "Title:" field and click ok.
2.4 Add a linkTo add a link click on "Link" at the top; this will come up with a menu. Select the type of link you wish to add.
2.4.1 Email AddressTo add a link to an email address, select the "E-Mail Address" option and enter the address in the "E-mail Address:" field.
2.4.2 Link to a webpageTo add a link to a webpage select "Browse to Web Page" and on the window that comes up enter the webpage URL in the "Web address (URL):" field or click on the "Browse" button.
If you click on "Browse" you will be presented with the Contribute 3 mini browser. Navigate to the webpage you want to link to and click OK.
2.5 Add an imageTo add an image click on "Image" at the top, this will come up with a menu. Select "From My Computer".
Browse to the location of the image and select it.
You will be asked to enter a description of the image. Please be detailed in this description.
The image should now be inserted in the the webpage and will be uploaded when you publish. 2.6 Upload documentsTo upload a document (.doc, .pdf, .rtf, .etc) click on the "Link" button, then select "File on My Computer...".
Under "Link text:" enter the text you wish to appear for the link to the file. To select the file you wish to upload click on the "Browse" button. You will be presented with a "Select File" dialog where you can select the file you wish to upload. When done click "OK"
2.7 Add a TableFor tabular data, you can insert a table by clicking on the "Table" button located at the top.
This will bring up the "Insert Table" window. Select the options you want for the table (make sure you select "Both" for the "Header" section).
NOTE: In order for the table to be 508 compliant you must select "Both" under the Header section and the data must be entered directly into Contribute 3(you can not copy and paste tables from other documents or web site). If you need complex tables with cells that span multiple rows and columns or have any questions about data tables, please fill out a service request and we will assist you. 3.0 Publish the pageWhen you are done editing the page, click the "Publish" along the top.
4.0 Adding Forms and Dynamic ContentDue to problems associated with forms and dynamic contents you are not able to use Contribute 3 to edit or add them. If you would like to use forms or dynamic content on your site, please contact us and we will work with you to build a solution. |
