Research, scholarly, and creative activity is a core mission of our institution. Internal, centrally administered support for research, scholarly, and creative activity (RSCA) is available from 3 sources/programs:
Funding and regulations for MGSS are mandated by the legislature and the Chancellor’s office, while funding and regulations for reassigned time and discretionary initiatives are determined on campus.
The following activities are eligible for all RSCA Awards:
The following activities are typically ineligible for any RSCA Awards:
Please note that at this present time there are no funds from the Chancellor's office for Mini-grants/Summer Stipends for 2013-2014 due to budget cuts to CSU.
Academic Affairs is pleased to announce plans for the 2014-15 faculty Research, Scholarly and Creative Activities (RSCA) Award. Academic Affairs plans to allocate $1 million, the largest campus amount ever allocated to support faculty research, scholarly and creative activities.
The RSCA Award supports reassigned time for faculty during the academic year. Although Academic Affairs provides funding, academic colleges administer the RSCA process. College faculty councils establish (or have established) respective policies and procedures governing award processes. Colleges use slightly different application forms; applicants should check with their respective college offices for proper forms.
The due date in all colleges for faculty proposals for 2014-15 awards is February 3, 2014. College award committees will review, evaluate, and rank proposals; Deans will make final decisions on awards.
Faculty members who receive awards are required to submit a Report of Work Accomplished by announced deadlines to the respective College Dean’s office. Academic Senate policy 11-08 Section 3.2 dictates the competitive process by which reassigned time will be awarded.
Individual College Councils are responsible for determining the criteria for applying, evaluating and recommending RSCA reassigned time. Although there are no required guidelines or application forms, Colleges may wish to use the forms previously required for assigned time applications. Assigned Time Guidelines and Application Forms
