  1. A conflict of interest is a subordination of the primary goal of academic research to seek and describe the truth to some other goal, typically a personal one.
  2. Conflicts of interest always involve greed for money.
  3. Financial conflicts of interest sometimes arise from the motives of the funding agency.
  4. The duty to maintain the "public trust" is the responsibility of the funding agency, the research institution, as well as the researcher.
  5. One form of conflict of interest may lead the researcher to inadvertently igNore or misinterpret research results.
  6. Political partisanship can be a conflict of interests for some researchers, but Not necessarily all researchers.
  7. A conflict of commitment usually occurs when the researcher has relationships with incompatible constituencies.
  8. Dogmatism, a tenacious adherence to a a theory or hypothesis, can result in a common form of conflict of interest.
  9. Every CSU Long Beach employee seeking grant or contract funds from external sources must sign an internal clearance form within which they indicate whether or Not they have a relevant financial interest that exceeds a certain dollar amount.
  10. The State of California Fair Political Practices Commission oversees financial conflicts of interest in grants and contracts.
