CSULB Finishes Strong at Moot Court TournamentCalifornia State University, Long Beach (CSULB) teams finished third, fifth sixth, seventh and eighth out of 34 teams at the Western Regional Moot Court Tournament at CSULB on December 4. A CSULB record of nine students earned the opportunity to compete in the national tournament in Miami in 2010:
Reynoso, Ewan, Brillault and Matthew Gunter were among the top 10 speakers at the tournament. In addition, Appelbaum and Abboud became the second and third students in CSULB history to earn bids to more than one national tournament. They are also the only two in CSULB history to earn two automatic bids to the national competition (2008 and 2009) and they are just the fourth team in CSULB history since 2003 to reach the regional semi-finals.
Three California State University, Long Beach students received Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships. Sienne Mascarenas Diaz, an illustration major, will be studying in the United Kingdom. Nhi Kathy Tran, an international business major with a Spanish minor, will be in Hong Kong. Adrianna Wilson, an early childhood education major, will be studying in New Zealand this spring. Sponsored by the State Department, the Gilman program is for students on Pell Grants who are especially needful of financial support to study abroad and is meant to help diversify the nation's study abroad population.
