November is a very busy month at CSULB. We enjoyed an excellent Faculty Supper Club with Mark Ruwedel from the Department of Art. We anticipate two Faculty Supper Club events in the spring semester. Details to follow in the months to come.
Events continue this week with numerous faculty presentations, art displays, performances and athletic events. On Wednesday, Biological Sciences’ Simon Malcomber will discuss "Feeding the World” at the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Fellows Colloquium. Former Wall Street senior banker, author of “House of Cards: A Tale of Hubris and Wretched Excess on Wall Street” and investigative journalist William D. Cohan will share his insights on the world financial crisis at the third CSULB Distinguished Speaker Series on Wednesday.
Please visit the CSULB calendar for information on these and other exciting events taking place in November. I hope that you will be able to participate in some of these informative and inspiring events.
This week we are also welcoming to campus two of the four finalists in the College of Health and Human Services dean search.
The remaining two finalists will be on campus the first week of December. I encourage you to view their CVs online, attend the open forums and provide your feedback.
We are committed to keeping everyone informed as we move through the budget planning process. Vice Provost Dave Dowell, Vice President of Administration and Finance Mary Stephens and I will begin the second round of campus presentations on the budget in January. “Road Show 2” will have a fairly specific indication of the budget impact on Academic Affairs. Look for dates and times in Wednesday morning messages in the weeks to come.
I want to thank you for your continued dedication to our students. I wish you, your families and friends a happy Thanksgiving holiday.
