Faculty Support and Development Opportunities

The Faculty Center for Professional Development is offering one-hour LunchNLearn brown-bag sessions in October and November. Events are held in the Faculty Center, in the Academic Services Building (AS), room 116 from 12 to 1 pm.

Technology Tuesdays LunchNLearn

(Co-Sponsored with OAT and FACT)

BeachWiki
October 6, 12 – 1 pm

Wikis are easy to use, encourage collaboration, and are customizable to your teaching style. This one-hour clinic introduces CSULB faculty and instructors to the basics of wiki technology and how to use CSULB BeachWiki. Faculty and instructors will learn how to create and edit pages in their course wikis and how to add text, pictures, and documents to meet their pedagogical needs. BeachWikis will be created on the spot.

Beachboard: Quizzing
October 12, 12 – 1 pm
Electronic assessments are being used by more instructors than ever at CSULB. This one-hour clinic focuses on teaching CSULB faculty and instructors the basics of creating and administering tests and quizzes, as well as helps refresh those having prior experience with this powerful tool.

Elluminate
October 20, 12 -1 pm
Elluminate is a real-time virtual classroom environment designed for both distance education and online collaboration. Instructors can use Elluminate to add real-time interaction to distance learning, extend the boundaries of the traditional classroom, and engage more students in more ways.

TeachNTweet
Thursday, October 22, 12 to 1 pm
Tiffini Travis, Librarian, will provide a workshop on how to use Twitter to enhance instruction. Stay connected to your students, provide links to resources, and other applications.

Student Issues LunchNLearn

Student Problems/Student Rights
Wednesday, October 14, 12 to 1 pm
Join Associate Vice President and Dean of Student, Dr. Mike Hostetler, and Assistant Dean of Students, Dr. Jeane Caveness, who will provide information on their office and campus policies and regulations specific to students. They will address topics such as plagiarism and cheating.

Student Civility and Student Distress
Tuesday, October 27, 12 to 1 pm
Join University Ombuds, Dr. Betsy Decyk, and Dr. Brad Compliment, Director, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) who will provide information on managing disruptive students and campus services for students in distress.

Tim Stelzer, inventor of iClicker, will visit CSULB on Friday, October 23, 2009. Come to the Faculty Center for Professional Development from 10 to 11 am, for a session with Tim.
