Message from the Provost

This week, as we celebrate with our largest graduating class in CSULB history, we take pride in our students' many accomplishments and in the outstanding quality of education they have received. Our students' graduation success is a direct result of the superb teaching, mentoring, and advising, as well as the numerous educational opportunities they received during their time here. I want to thank all of our faculty and staff for their continued dedication to our students.

This spring, we have several exciting announcements. At its final meeting in May, the Academic Senate approved, with unanimous consent, a name change from the Department of Nursing to the School of Nursing. The School of Nursing will bring heightened recognition to our nursing program and its faculty, students, and staff, and will help us in the recruitment of new nursing faculty. CSULB is now the eighth university in the CSU and the 14th in California to have a School of Nursing.

In addition, we are very pleased that the Academic Senate has unanimously approved University College and Extension Services' new name: College of Continuing and Professional Education. All agree that this new name more clearly reflects the dual mission of the college to address the educational and professional needs of our students and our community.

I would also like to congratulate Dr. Shireen Pavri, who was recently appointed Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Research for the College of Education. We are confident that her leadership will continue to enhance the strong graduate programs and activities in the College of Education.

As we look forward to the fall, we are preparing to welcome an exciting and diverse new faculty cohort. We currently have 37 new tenure-track faculty coming to CSULB from throughout the United States as well as from Canada and India. In early fall, we will also be re-launching searches for the Associate Vice President of Research and External Support as well as for the Dean of the College of Health and Human Services.

Thank you for your extraordinary work over the past academic year. I wish you all a productive and enjoyable summer.
