Turn to the Academic Data Center to Protect Technology, Data

The Office of Academic Technology (OAT) is offering server and application hosting services for academic areas in the academic data center.

The data center, which houses physical servers, virtual servers and software applications in a secure location, consolidates technology resources, conserves energy, and prevents data loss if there is a power outage. Off-site backup data and storage services are also available.

The academic data center is ideal for anyone who

  • Is considering purchasing new servers for a research project;
  • Has servers that are mission or research critical;
  • Wants to go "Green;"
  • Has data, information, servers, and/or applications that need more protection from hackers than your area can provide;
  • Plans to provide a new service or application for a college/academic department;
  • Isn't sure what to do with an existing application for a college/academic department that is no longer supported or running on servers that are out of warranty;
  • Needs to quickly install software and make it available on a server;
  • Is ready to have someone else manage the Operating System and security of servers so you can concentrate on other technology priorities;
  • Wants to help his/her technology support staff learn and experiment with technology that helps consolidate servers, conserve energy and make systems more reliable.

Before making decisions about using the data center, faculty, departments and colleges must contact the Office of Academic Technology for a consultation to make sure their needs and OAT's service are a good fit. To inquire about the academic data center, contact oat-help@csulb.edu.
