Sheila Thomas Named Associate Dean of UCES

Sheila Thomas Sheila A. Thomas has been appointed Associate Dean for University College and Extension Services (UCES) at California State University, Long Beach(CSULB).

Thomas has over 20 years experience in adult and continuing education including graduate school administration. She joined CSULB in 2005 as Senior Director of Programs with responsibility for development and management of credit degree programs, Professional Development, Corporate Education, Distance Learning and international initiatives. In January 2008, she was named Interim Associate Dean and retained the duties of the Senior Director of Programs. As Interim Associate Dean she assumed responsibility for extending and supporting the work of the Dean's Office, including oversight of all accreditation and policy compliance issues. In addition, she provided leadership for program development projects at the direction of the Dean.

Prior to her career at CSULB, Thomas held progressively responsible administrative positions at Southern California University of Health Sciences and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

Thomas currently serves on the CSULB President's Commission for the Status of Women as well as the Advisory Board for the Regional Technology Center. She is an institutional member of the University Continuing Education Association (UCEA) and LERN. She is also an institutional member of the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce, Long Beach Junior Chamber and the Long Beach Non Profit Partnership.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Azusa Pacific University and a Master of Arts degree in Humanities from Cal State Dominguez Hills. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Education degree with an emphasis in Higher Education Leadership.
