Message from the Provost

This month California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) is hosting two exciting events for the entire campus community, and we are welcoming finalists for two important academic leadership searches.

International Education Week, taking place this week, offers more than a dozen opportunities to celebrate our commitment to global engagement.  Among the highlights is a presentation by Ambassador Zhang Yun, Consul General of the People's Republic of China, in Los Angeles, who will be speaking on Thursday, November 20, from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m., at the Anatol Center in the Administrative Services (AS) Building.  Throughout the week there will also be student presentations on Study Abroad experiences, films, and a music performance by the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music Studio Jazz Band.  You can find the complete schedule of international education events on the Center for International Education Web site

Fall Homecoming is this Saturday, November 22.  Bring the family, enjoy a barbecue lunch, hear musicians from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music, participate in family friendly games and contests, and watch the Men’s basketball game, CSULB versus Weber State.  Homecoming is a great opportunity to reconnect with former students, welcome back our alumni, and share our Beach Pride.

We have also been interviewing four finalists for the position of Dean of the College of Education. In December, we will be interviewing finalists for the Associate Vice President for Research and External Support. I invite you to learn more about the candidates for both searches, attend their public presentations, and provide your feedback.  Dates, times, and locations for open forums for both searches are available online

Thank you for all of the work you do on behalf of our students.  I wish all of you a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday.
