On October 16, the Center for International Education is sponsoring a live satellite broadcast of the 25th Annual World Food Day Teleconference. The proceedings will be aired from 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. in the University Telecommunications building, room 127 (UTC-127). This year’s theme is “Choices for a Warm and Hungry Planet.”
Open to the entire campus community, the teleconference will address issues that concern every citizen in every sector of society and, according to the current UN Human Development Report, “no country – however wealthy or powerful – will be immune to the impact of global warming.”
World Food Day panelists Dr. Nancy Birdsall, founding president of the Center for Global Development; Siwa Msangi, from the International Food Policy Research Institute; and Mark Ritchie, Minnesota’s Secretary of State, will discuss the many cross-cutting issues and consider ways to encourage collaborative efforts by all elements of society. The Program Host is PBS senior correspondent Ray Suarez. Panel members will examine the issues, the challenges, and the diversity of approaches needed to adequately respond to the effects of climate change and food shortages.
There is no need to RSVP. In accordance with your schedule, feel free to attend only part of the teleconference.
