Approximately 1,300 students from kindergarten through 12th grade will spend a day at college when California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) hosts Junior University on October 24.
From 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. more than 40 different classes will be offered in writing, art, science, math, social studies, physical education and more including Boom Town, in which students analyze and reconstruct the city, CSI-CSULB: Forensic Science in Action, an African Dance class and the Circle Painting Project, in which students create mural-sized paintings made up of circles.
“Students are coming from 50 different schools in the area to participate in a number of fun, educational academic programs taught by CSULB professors with help from our students and staff,” said Cecile Lindsay, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs. “For many of these students, this will be their first time visiting our campus, but we hope it will not be the last. We want this day of exploration and inquiry to inspire them to pursue a college education.”
Junior University, previously known as Academic Day and held in conjunction with Kaleidoscope in spring, has been moved to October this year to coincide with other CSULB community activities. It now falls within a few weeks of University by the Sea and Homecoming, which is scheduled for November 22.
