7 Days of Service Encourages Campus, Community Involvement

Faculty, students and staff will have the opportunity to raise money for AIDS research, participate in a food drive or refurbish a home in North Long Beach when California State University, Long Beach’s ninth annual 7 Days of Service begins on Oct. 19.  The weeklong series of events is designed to encourage community engagement and showcase current service projects.

In addition to participating in local community service projects, faculty, students and staff will have the opportunity to discuss best practices for service learning and community-based participatory research, explore key social issues in Long Beach and learn how the university impacts the world through international service learning. All events are free and open to students, faculty, staff and community.

“7 Days of Service highlights our university’s commitment to serving our local, national, and international communities,” said Juan M. Benitez, interim director of the Center for Community Engagement.  “It’s an opportunity for faculty, staff, students and the larger community to showcase ongoing community engagement efforts and explore issues of importance here in Long Beach and throughout the world.”
