Jeet Joshee began as dean of University College and Extension Services (UCES) on August 18, overseeing more than 550 credit, certificate and professional programs available through the college year round.
For the past three years, Joshee has served as dean of the College of Extended Learning and professor of education at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). During that time he expanded the college’s presence locally and internationally, establishing the American Culture and Language Program Center in Seoul, South Korea – the first overseas center of its kind for CSUSB. He also created the China Programs Office at CSUSB to provide specific management training and education programs for Chinese Government Officials, as well as public and private sector executives. In addition, under Joshee’s leadership, CSUSB opened a Cal State Downtown Center in the City of San Bernardino, increased educational programs for public and private sector employers and employees, secured a $1 million endowment from the Bernard Osher Foundation, and expanded the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute throughout the Coachella Valley.

He is eager to work with our faculty, students, and university community as well as our many extension partners to build upon the excellent reputation UCES has established,” said Karen L. Gould, provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs. “Under Dr. Joshee’s leadership, I am confident that University College and Extension Services will continue to thrive and will help move the University forward in new and exciting ways.”
Prior to his appointment at CSUSB, Dr. Joshee served as assistant dean and associate professor in the College of Continuing Studies from 2000-2005 and as executive director of Extended and Continuing Education from 1996-2000 at the University of Connecticut. He has also held administrative and faculty appointments at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he completed both his M.Ed (1990) and Ed.D. (1994) in International Education.
"I am very excited about the opportunity to lead University College and Extension Services at Cal State Long Beach,” Joshee said. “UCES has an excellent tradition and a long history of serving the community and adult learners. I intend to develop programs that will further enhance economic development in Southern California and throughout the state. Under the dynamic leadership of President F. King Alexander and Provost Karen Gould, UCES will play a key role in fulfilling the outreach mission of this outstanding university. We will develop programs that will serve local, state, national and international audiences - making CSULB a truly globally-engaged institution."
Joshee replaces Marilyn Crego who retired after seven years as dean. During her tenure, University College and Extension Services grew significantly, offering more programs to meet marketplace development and workforce needs and creating new business and community partnerships.
UCES classes are offered online and off-site and can be applied toward a degree, taken for professional development or for personal enrichment. The college also houses the Center for International Trade and Transportation, the American Language Institute, an intensive English language program which offers instruction year-round, and Corporate Education, which offers customized training programs for area companies.
