Faculty, Students and Staff Highlights

David Huckaby (Biological Sciences)  was recently elected a Fellow of Southern California Academy of Sciences, a non-profit organization located at the Museum of Natural History.

Rajen S. Anand (Biological Sciences) is a delegate to the Democratic National Convention taking place in Denver August 25-28.

Alumna Millie Sweesy-Barger's (Kinesiology) thesis research involving the influence of yoga training on bone density was recently cited in Internal Medicine News.

Tom Blomquist (Film and Electronic Arts) directed two music videos for recording artist Kellie Coffey, who was named American Country Music’s Best New Female Artist in 2003.  Blomquist took several of his students to film "I Would Die For That" and "Walk On.”  Director of Photography Alex Rodriguez, Gaffer Erol Kalafat, Camera Operator Matt Irwin and Script Supervisor Golnar Fakhrai were among the many undergraduate students who worked in principle and supporting production roles. Matt Irwin also served as Second Unit Director of Photography. In addition, 20 students from the Department of Music performed in the gospel choir for "Walk On," which was partially filmed in the Studio Theatre. More.

I hope you’ve had a productive and relaxing summer.   I know many of you spent the summer conducting research and teaching our students across the globe.  In fact, nearly 480 students completed courses taught by California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) faculty in 30 countries around the world this summer.  It is wonderful to see so many faculty and students make international education a priority. More


Convocation Scheduled for August 29

Begin the new academic year with colleagues from throughout California State University, Long Beach at the 2008 Annual Convocation on Friday, August 29 at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center, 6200 Atherton St.  President F. King Alexander, Provost Karen L. Gould and Academic Senate Chair Praveen Soni will reflect on the University’s achievements and outline their initiatives for 2008-09.  All faculty and staff are invited to the reception and continental breakfast from 8 – 8:45 a.m. and the program at 9 a.m.
