Spring Research Events Scheduled

This spring California State University, Long Beach is hosting a number of events highlighting student and faculty research and creative activity. Upcoming celebrations and competitions include:

  • The first All-University Research Celebration will take place May 1.  Jim Till, associate vice president for research and external support is coordinating the event.  More information will be made available soon.

  • The Interdisciplinary Studies program will be showcasing the senior projects and papers of the 2008 graduating seniors on April 25 from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the University Student Union's Huntington Room.  The 25 projects featured range from laboratory research to entertainment productions to 50-page papers. The Interdisciplinary Studies Program expands upon the traditional university education by offering both undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to design their own programs of scholastic inquiry.

  • The Social Science Research and Instructional Center is holding the 32nd Annual Student Research Conference at the CSULB University Student Union on May 2.  The event is open to all undergraduate and graduate social science students from the 23 California State University campuses as well as the community college campuses.  Students will deliver a 15-20 minute presentation on their research.  Awards are given for best undergraduate, best graduate and best use of quantitative data.  To compete for a cash award, papers (no more than 20 pages) must be submitted by April 21.  If you are interested in participating without competing for a cash prize, submit an abstract no later than April 28.  For additional information, including how to enter the competition, visit the SSRIC Web site


  • The College of Liberal Arts will hold its Student Research Showcase on May 15.  The event will take place from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the quadrangle on upper campus outside of Lecture Halls 50/51. For additional information, call extension 5-5381.
