Ten Students from CSULB to Compete in CSU Research Competition

 

Ten students will represent California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) at the California State University Student Research Competition May 2 and 3.

Yasser Eddebbar, Rebecca Graziano, Yuhua Liang, Janice Lee, Oscar Mejia, April O’Brien, Richard Roberson, Seija Rohkea, Adam Trivison and Julie Whited will compete against students from the other 22 California State universities.  They were selected to participate at the competitive statewide event following CSULB’s 20th Annual Student Research Competition, held on March 7.  Nearly 40 undergraduate and graduate students participated in the competition, which is designed to highlight the outstanding accomplishments of students engaged in significant research and creative activity in all academic disciplines.

 “We had an excellent group of students participate in the student research competition.  Their research projects were innovative and well thought out,” said Cecile Lindsay, vice provost for academic affairs and dean of graduate studies. “I am extremely  impressed with their research projects and commend them on their hard work and dedication.”

Students were judged by faculty.  Winners were selected based on a number of criteria.  Students' research papers were judged for the quality of their research or creative activity by assessing: clarity of purpose, appropriateness of methodology, interpretation of results, and value of research or creative work.  The ability of the students to present their research was based on: articulattion of research/creative work, organization of presentation, and handling of questions.  The first place winner received a cash prize of $200; the second place winner received $100.
