The Faculty Center for Professional Development will host the 2008 Winter Institute on Teaching and Learning as an online workshop January 7 - 25. It will conclude with a face-to-face session on January 25 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the Anatol Center. Sponsored by the Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) grant and the Division of Academic Affairs, the workshop will provide all faculty with a $250 stipend.
The online workshop, E-Merging Learning, is open to all faculty. It is designed to help instructors enhance traditional "face-to-face" courses with online activities that facilitate student learning.
Studies have shown that well-designed, student-centered, interactive learning tasks can enrich a student's learning experience, complementing the experience offered by the traditional classroom. Throughout the workshop, faculty will engage in a process of course redesign by participating in self-paced modules on student engagement, minority student success, CSULB student population information and specific course redesign strategies. There will be a special workshop specifically for curriculum committees.
To register, download and complete the application form. Email it to FCPD@csulb.edu by January 2. For more information, visit the Faculty Center for Professional Development Web site.
