Academic Technology to Enhance Learning and Discovery

Teaching and learning in our digital age are evolving relying on a foundation of technology to engage today's learners. The Office of the Provost is leading the effort to make California State University, Long Beach a leader in providing outstanding support for the deployment of academic technology. The Spring 2007 consultant's report, Assessment of IT Practices for the Division of Academic Affairs, highlights the opportunities and some of the challenges we face, makes recommendations, and develops a framework for improving Academic Technology support, including the recruitment for an Associate Vice President for Academic Technology .

The services currently provided by Instructional Technology Support Services (ITSS), the University Library, and the Faculty Center for Professional Development (FCPD) are the primary organizations providing support for the development and enhancement of technology-based instruction. Faculty use the learning management system and/or classroom-based technology to enhance instruction and student success. The California State University (CSU) system office also supports initiatives to improve student success and encourage collaborative leadership in the area of academic technology.
