Overview
Currently celebrating its 59th year, California State University, Long Beach has awarded more than 38,000 graduate degrees. The campus annually serves approximately 6,000 graduate and post-baccalaureate students. It offers a wide range of graduate offerings, now totaling 67 different fields for master's degrees (Master of Arts, Master of Science, Master of Fine Arts, Master of Music, Master of Public Administration, Master of Public Health, Master of Physical Therapy, Master of Social Work, Master of Business Administration, and Civil Engineer).
CSULB also participates in offering two joint doctoral degrees (an Ed.D. in Education Administration and Leadership and a Ph.D. in Engineering and Industrial Applied Mathematics) and will offer a new independent doctorial degree in Educational Leadership beginning in fall 2007.

Graduate Student Orientation
Graduate Student Orientation for newly admitted graduate students for fall 2008 will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2008. This is a general orientation session that covers policies, procedures, and campus resources that apply to all programs. For information and registration, click here.
Some individual programs have required orientation sessions (e.g., MBA, College of Education). You will receive information about these sessions from your department or program.

Additional Information and Resources
The Sally Casanova Pre-Doctoral Scholars Program focuses on students with very strong academic records who come from economically or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds and who have an interest in pursuing doctoral study. Each applicant for the Pre-Doctoral Program must have a faculty sponsor who will be available to work with the student during the 2007-08 academic year in implementing a plan designed to prepare the student for admission to a doctoral program. Each plan should be tailored to the specific needs and career objectives of the individual student. Students may obtain a complete set of application materials at the Office of Academic Affairs, Brotman Hall 303, or by calling the office at (562) 985-4128 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. The application materials can be obtained on the Internet at http://www.calstate.edu/PreDoc/Application.shtml. The applications, however, cannot be submitted electronically.
The California State University Forgivable Loan Incentive Program provides financial assistance to graduate students who show promise of becoming strong candidates for CSU instructional faculty positions. The purpose of the program is to increase the pool of individuals with the qualifications, motivation, and skills to teach the diverse student body in the California State University. It is a competitive program directed by the California State University but open to doctoral students across the country.
