Second Semester and Beyond

CSULB is committed to ensuring that all students receive accurate and timely academic advising.  All freshmen have an "advising hold" throughout their first semester.  You must attend a "mandatory advising" workshop offered by one of the advising units on campus during the month of October and November each fall semester in order to register for your second semester (spring 2007).  You should have received an e-mail message instructing you on how to sign up for one of these workshops.  If you did not receive an e-mail, you should contact the Academic Advising Center at (562) 985-4837 immediately.

Advising for your third semester (fall 2007) will take place during the month of April 2007 and will help you select classes, explore your major (or potential major), meet General Education requirements, and succeed at The Beach.

There are two important things YOU need to do.

1. RIGHT NOW, CHECK TO SEE IF YOUR INTENDED MAJOR IS LISTED CORRECTLY.

Go to "MyCSULB" http://www.my.csulb.edu. After you log in, go to "Registration and Academics" and then "Unofficial Transcript." Check to see if your major (academic plan) is listed correctly. If no change is needed, skip to step 3.

2. CHANGE YOUR LISTED MAJOR (IF NECESSARY).

If you have decided on a new major, first find out if your new major is "impacted." Impacted majors have special admissions requirements. To find out, visit http://www.csulb.edu/depts/enrollment/admissions/impacted major.html. If the major is impacted, you should make an appointment to talk to the department advisor.

If your new major is not impacted, pick up a "Change of Major" form at Enrollment Services in Brotman Hall. Take the "Change of Major" form to your new major department office for signature. Department office locations are listed in the current Schedule of Classes. Return the signed form to Enrollment Services in Brotman Hall by the end of March.
