Student-Athlete Freshmen Transitions Peer Mentoring Program:
The S-A Freshmen Transitions Peer Mentoring Program assists first-year student-athletes in adjusting to the demands of both university academics and intercollegiate athletics by talking with junior and senior student athlete peer mentors who have successfully "survived" their first year.
The Program empowers first-year student-athletes to transition successfully from high school to the university. Student-Athlete peer mentors talk with first-year student-athletes about academic, social, athletic, and personal pressures. The group process encourages student-athletes to make connections with each other across teams to foster unity within the student-athlete community.Student-Athlete Peer Mentors:
Student-athlete peer mentors develop facilitation skills as they meet together to prepare and mentor first-year student-athletes during the semester. Mentors earn a unit towards their baccalaureate degree as well as gain leadership and peer mentoring experience for building their résumé. For information on how to become a student-athlete peer mentor, please contact the Director of Student-Athlete Freshmen Transitions Peer Mentoring Program at the Bickerstaff Student-Athlete Academic Center.
