August 22, 2012
As you know, we implemented a 13 unit enrollment limit for Fall 2012 to ensure that all students had access to courses despite a very challenging budget. We then increased the enrollment limit to 16 units on August 4. This process has been very successful in ensuring that new students were able to get adequate schedules during summer registration.
Our student headcount is very much on target. However, FTE is below target in several colleges. As a result, we are increasing the enrollment limit to 18 units to allow students to register in existing course sections that have not yet reached capacity. Students will receive information from Lynn Mahoney about this in a day or so.
We do not plan to add resources as a result of this change in unit limit. There should be no additional cost for these units as students who are already enrolled are permitted to access existing seats. There is also no additional revenue for this added enrollment as students pay full fees for anything above 6 units. This increase in unit limit is only to aid students by making best use of existing seats.
As in previous terms, students wishing to enroll in more than 18 units must submit a Petition for Exception to the Office of Undergraduate Studies.
