CSULB hosts the 12th Annual CSU New Department Chairs Workshop on Friday, October 24, 2008, from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM at The Pointe in the Walter Pyramid.

CSU New Department Chairs Workshop is a winner!

Each year, the CSU South Workshop consistently delivers a program with a proven track record of overwhelmingly high evaluations from over ninety participants from as many as twenty participating CSU campuses. The CSU NDCW attendees consistently rate the workshop a perfect ten. No doubt about it, the presenters are right on target.

A multicampus endeavor designed to assist new department chairs to adjust to the variety of challenges they encounter and also provides unequaled opportunities to network with department chairs from other CSU campuses.

The CSU South Workshop is an introduction to interpersonal skills and tools needed to effectively manage and lead in an academic setting. The format is a mix of interactive presentations, case studies, and panel discussions.

  • Morning breakout sessions shift the focus to information and techniques that are used to improve an academic department.
  • Afternoon topics identify leader and manager skills as well as those personal skills that help shape the successful chairperson. Faculty contract matters are also highlighted.

The Planning Committee -- composed of Associate Vice Presidents of Academic/Faculty Affairs from eleven CSU campuses -- strives to present meaningful and substantive issues to department chairs. Within the last ten years, they have honed topics to be more relevant and significant to new department chairs.
