Instructional Student Assistant - Asian & Asian American Studies

Instructional Student Assistant (Language Lab)

Effective Date

January 23, 2012 to June 30, 2012 (Spring Semester 2012)

Salary Range

Up to 20 hours per week (most lab assistants work from 5-10 hours per week), $10-12 per hour

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Active enrollment in a CSULB program for at least 6 units during the semester employed
  • A GPA of at least 3.0 in all courses at CSULB
  • Demonstrated fluency in at least one language other than English including Arabic, French, German, Italian Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, or Vietnamese

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate students studying in a language related field with some teaching and/or tutoring experience
  • Familiarity with word processing and other software in the target language

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and small group foreign language tutoring

  • Conduct lab orientation sessions

  • Perform foreign language related computing and technical support

  • Supervise students using the lab facilities

  • Collect accurate data on lab usage

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the lab space

  • Managing the daily operations of the language lab

 

Required Documentation

  • Signed SC-1 form (obtained from department)
  • A letter of application addressing the student’s qualifications for the position
  • Letter of recommendation from the lead faculty on campus responsible for the specific language
  • Employment is contingent upon proof of the legal right to work in the United States. This proof must be provided at the time of employment at the University.
    • An appointment is not final until proof is provided
