Position

Assistant Professor, joint position in the departments of Sociology and Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies (Race, Gender and Class; Race and Ethnic Relations, and Global Feminisms)

Effective Date

August 20, 2012 (Fall 2012 semester)

Salary Range

Commensurate with qualifications and experience 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Sociology or related discipline at time of appointment

  • Academic expertise in the areas of Race, Gender and Class; Race and Ethnic Relations; and Global Feminisms

  • Demonstrated potential for successful college level teaching

  • Demonstrated potential for continuing development of research program in the areas described

  • Commitment to and/or expertise in educating a diverse student population

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of scholarship and successful teaching in the following: Race, Gender and Class; Race Ethnic Relations; U.S. Muslim Communities; Sexualities; Global Feminisms

  • Ability to mentor students and supervise student research

  • Evidence of service in an academic institution or the community

 

Responsibilities

  • Teach existing courses in Racism and Racial Relations; Race, Gender and Class; Bodies and Borders: Feminism and Globalization; and U.S. Women of Color

  • Develop potential courses in Global Feminisms, Critical Race Theory, and in applicant’s area(s) of expertise

  • Engage in ongoing research, scholarly and creative activity

  • Participate in department, college, university, and community service

  • Assist in mentoring students

  • Supervise student research projects

  • Participate in departmental governance and service to the department, college, and university by developing

    curricula and programs to meet the needs of a diverse student body

  • Letter of application including an in-depth description of research and teaching interests and qualifications

  • Samples of relevant materials (teaching materials, evaluations, research papers or publications, etc.)

  • Curriculum vitae (including current e-mail address)

  • Three recent letters of reference

  • A copy of the transcript from the institution awarding highest degree 

  • Finalists will be required to submit an official transcript and a signed SC-1 form
