Minimum Qualifications
- Earned doctorate in Education with an emphasis in language, literacy or reading education
- Successful secondary public school teaching in highly diverse urban settings
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the area of secondary reading/language arts or secondary content area reading methods with an emphasis on effective instruction and interventions for English Language Learners, At-risk Students, and Students with Special Needs
- Commitment to and/or expertise in educating a diverse student population
- Demonstrated capacity for research, scholarly and creative activity appropriate to rank
- Knowledge base of social, linguistic and cultural diversity issues surrounding the teaching of reading/language arts and content area literacy in secondary public school classrooms for English Language Learners, At-Risk Students, and Students with Special Needs
Preferred Qualifications
- Successful teaching experience at the university level in teacher education in the area of secondary language and literacy education
- Background and experience with K-12 partnerships in reading/language arts and literacy education for diverse learners
- Experience as a reading specialist or a literacy coach at the school or district level.
- Record of research, scholarly and creative activity in the area of reading/language arts and literacy education
- Demonstrated expertise and effective use of a wide range of instructional technologies pertaining to Teacher Education
Responsibilities
- Teach secondary Reading/Language Arts methods courses in the single subject credential programs
- Teach in the Graduate Program for Reading/Language Arts, Curriculum and Instruction and related courses in the special education program
- Provide leadership in the credential programs in the area of Reading/Language Arts with an emphasis on effective interventions for English Language Learners, At-risk students, and students with special needs
- Participate in faculty governance through department, college, and university committees
- Engage in research and, scholarly and creative activity in the area of reading, language arts, and/or literacy education

- Three letters of recommendation (one of which must be from outside the CSU system)
- A copy of the transcript from institution awarding highest degree showing its completion
