Position

Assistant Professor - Tenure track appointment in the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies, with a preference for candidates possessing a background in Therapeutic Recreation and general Recreation.

Effective Date

August 23, 2010

Salary Range

Commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

  • Earned Doctorate in recreation/leisure or related discipline; at least one degree in the field of recreation or leisure services;
  • Current national certification in Therapeutic Recreation through NCTRC;
  • Evidence of ability to teach effectively in a wide range of college courses and potential for scholarly activity, research, publication, and grant writing is required. 
  • Candidates must have the ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience at the college or university level;
  • Research and work experience in one’s area of specialty, and
  • Evidence of experience in computer-assisted instruction.

Duties

  • Teach courses in core curriculum, including, but not limited to:  foundations of therapeutic recreation, therapeutic recreation treatment/program planning, facilitation techniques, management of therapeutic recreation services, counseling techniques in therapeutic recreation and legal issues in therapeutic recreation. 
  • Teach department general education and graduate courses, supervise interns, advise undergraduates and serve on graduate committees as appropriate. 
  • Conduct an ongoing line of scholarly inquiry; publication and presentation of original work; and seek grants to support this scholarly inquiry. 
  • Additional responsibilities include providing leadership in and establishing communication with agencies and organizations appropriate to individual area of specialty; serve on Department, College and University committees; and a willingness to serve as a cooperating member of a diverse faculty.

  • An official transcript from institution awarding highest degree.

(Employment is contingent upon proof of the legal right to work in the United States. This proof must be provided by the time of employment at the University.  An appointment is not final until proof is provided).
