Position:   Teaching Associate Openings

 

Effective Date   Fall: August 24, 2009 to December 24, 2009;  Spring: January 22, 2010 to May 28, 2010 (contingent upon budgetary funds)

                                         

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must be graduate students who are enrolled for a minimum of 6 units in the MA program in the Department of English at CSULB.
  • Must show potential for successful teaching.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
  • Graduate students may not be employed for more than six semesters.

 

Desired/Preferred Qualifications                       

  • College work in Rhetoric, Composition, Teaching of English, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching or tutoring writing.

 

Duties:                            

Under direct supervision and guidance of the Teaching Associate Supervisor, teach one section of English 100 (Composition).

 

Salary Range:   

Commensurate with training and experience.  Probable range: $568 to $592 per month, per 3-unit course, paid in six installments per semester.

 

Required Documentation:         

  • A cover letter stating intent of application.
  • A personal statement of approximately 250 words describing the applicant’s career objectives, related background, etc.
  • A résumé or Curriculum Vita listing a current email address.
  • Three letters of recommendation (one of which MUST be from an off-campus reference);
  • Transcript from institution awarding B.A. degree and showing its completion,
  • A writing sample (maximum 12 pages).
