POSITION:   One Position – Assistant/Associate rank, tenure-track

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Doctorate in Mathematics Education (or the equivalent) with the equivalent of a master's degree in mathematics, or a Doctorate in Mathematics with scholarly work and extensive experience in mathematics education; all requirements for the doctorate must be completed by the effective date of the appointment. Record of (or evidence of potential for) effective scholarly activity and teaching in mathematics education.  Significant involvement with K-12 mathematics classroom education. Activity and membership in professional organizations related to mathematics education on K-16 levels, e.g., NCTM, MAA and AMTE. Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

 

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Experience with the external funding process for mathematics education projects. Experience (or evidence of potential for) teaching graduate courses in mathematics education. Experience teaching and supervising students preparing to teach mathematics at the secondary level.  At least 3 years experience teaching mathematics in grades 6-12 in public schools. Familiarity with the California Math Standards (available at http://www.cde.ca.gov/board/mcs_intro.html) and NCTM's standards for curriculum, teaching, and assessment.  Ability to work collaboratively with other faculty within the Department and across campus and with public school teachers and personnel.  Knowledge of technology and its roles in mathematics education at the K-12 levels. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Teach courses in the Department’s Graduate Program in Mathematics Education. Establish and maintain an appropriate program of scholarly activity in the field of mathematics education. Teach content and methods courses (including supervision of student teachers/interns, as needed) for students preparing to teach mathematics in middle and high school.  Teach mathematics content courses for students preparing to teach mathematics in K-8. Assist and share in coordination tasks, committee assignments, and development of future curriculum related to mathematics education in K-12.  Continue membership and activity in appropriate professional organizations within mathematics education, especially NCTM, CMC and AMTE.

 

SALARY RANGE:  Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
