POSITION: Assistant Professor; Associate Professor level considered for exceptionally experienced candidates

EFFECTIVE DATE: August 25, 2009

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Doctoral degree in physics or a related field with an outstanding record of research in experimental physics. Candidates must show evidence of commitment to excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Candidates must exhibit a record of excellence in research and show potential for developing and sustaining an externally funded research program involving students.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Postdoctoral research experience. Research focus compatible with, but not limited to, current department research interests (http://www.csulb.edu/depts/physics/). Experience in effective teaching. Evidence of obtaining externally funded grants. A record of significant publications at the forefront of physics. Experience or interest/intent to engage undergraduate majors in research.

DUTIES: Teach courses at all levels, including lower division undergraduate courses. Supervise research of both undergraduate and graduate students. Leverage start−up support to develop and sustain a research program, involving students, leading to publications and external grants. Participate in activities that serve the department, university, and community.

PROBABLE SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience and background: for Assistant professor, $65,500 to $71,000; for Associate Professor, $71,500 to $79,500.
