Evolutionary Biologist

 

POSITION:  Assistant Professor preferred; Associate Professor considered for exceptionally experienced candidates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Ph.D. in biology, or related field.  Successful candidate will have post-doctoral research experience and a record of published research and the ability to develop and sustain an externally funded research program involving students in evolutionary biology.  Demonstrated potential for effective teaching of introductory biology, evolutionary biology, and related courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

 

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Minimum two years of postdoctoral research.  Prior successful teaching at the post-secondary level, preferably in introductory biology and evolutionary biology.

 

DUTIES:  Teach and participate in the revision of the introductory core sequence for the majors in the Department of Biological Sciences, teach an upper-division course in evolutionary biology.  Rotate through graduate courses and seminars.  Supervise undergraduate and graduate (M.S.) student research.  Develop and sustain an independent, externally funded research program involving students and leading to scientific presentations and publications.  The successful candidate will be expected to participate in activities serving the department, university, and community.

 

PROBABLE SALARY RANGE:  Assistant Professor: $60,400 – 67,000; Associate Professor: $67,600 – 78,800 (based on preparation and experience).
