Assistant Professor of Art (3-D Foundation)

Effective Date

August 19, 2013 (Fall Semester)

Salary Range

Commensurate with qualifications and experience

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • MFA in Studio Art or record of outstanding creative/professional achievement
  • Strong creative/professional record as demonstrated by portfolio
  • Record of exhibitions, commissions, or projects
  • Evidence of successful teaching of 3D Foundation and/or intro-level courses in a 3D discipline at the college level
  • Evidence of understanding foundation principles of form and design in three dimensions
  • Demonstrated  knowledge of materials, processes, and techniques for forming and constructing three dimensions
  • Demonstrated potential to coordinate the 3D portion of a Foundation Program
  • Demonstrated potential to assume a leadership role in running a Foundation Program
  • Commitment to and/ or expertise teaching diverse student population

 

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to teach other foundation courses such as 2D, drawing, or digital

  • Demonstrated ability to teach courses in one or more of the School of Art’s 3D programs

    • Ceramics, Fiber, Metals, Sculpture, Wood
  • Evidence of knowledge of historical and contemporary art issues

  • Record of academic service

 

Duties

  • Coordinate the 3D portion of a Foundation Program
  • Teach courses in 3D Foundation, and possibly other Foundation courses or courses in one or more of the School of Art’s 3D programs (Ceramics, Fiber, Metals, Sculpture,Wood)
  • Serve as the Foundation Program Head on a rotating basis with other Foundation faculty
  • Additional duties include advising students, curriculum development, and committee work and other service in the school, college, and university
  • Actively participate in the governance processes of The School of Art, the College of the Arts, and the university and serve on committees
  • Serve in a leadership role in the School of Art and maintain linkages with other programs within the school

Required Documentation

  •  Formal letter of application addressing minimum and desired/preferred qualifications and duties as stated above

  • Resume/curriculum vitae with current email address

  • Statement of teaching philosophy

  • Copy of official transcripts of from institution awarding highest degree

  • At least three current letters of recommendation from professionals in the field addressing the applicant’s specific qualifications for the position

  • Include digital portfolio on CD including twenty or more images of work by applicant, and twenty or more images of work by applicant’s students as JPEG images with a maximum size of 2000 pixels in the longest dimension. CD must be accompanied with printed back-up comprising printed images and captions corresponding to all digital images submitted

  • Student work should include caption information about the nature of the assignment and/or the course in which the work was produced

  • Please do not submit portfolios as PDFs or as Powerpoint or other digital presentations

  • All items above will be retained
  • Applicants may also include copies of performance evaluations from prior teaching experience and other documentation regarding instruction and instructionally related activity; research, scholarly and creative activity; and service activities

  • Provide a self-addressed envelope with adequate postage for the return of these materials
  • Finalists will be required to submit sample syllabi, a signed SC-1 university application form, and official transcript
  • Clearly mark all application materials with applicant’s name and “3D Foundation Search”
  • Submit materials in a plain manila file folder—no three-ring binders please
  • Compile all materials into a single package and send to:
