College of the Arts
College of the Arts (COTA)
is one of the largest and most respected arts schools in the country.
With over 4,000 students studying the six departments, the COTA
offers nationally recognized, fully accredited degree programs in
Art, Dance, Design, Film and Electronic Arts, Music, and Theatre
Arts. Located in close proximity to Los Angeles/ Hollywood, and
with ties to the arts and entertainment industries, the COTA focuses
on professional development in the applied and performance fields
of study.The goal of most students is professional employment as
artists/performers in their chosen disciplines. The seven performance
halls, including three world-class performing arts facilities -
the Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center, the Martha
Knoebel Dance Theatre and the Edison Theatre in downtown Long Beach;
and an art museum which ranks among the top 10% of the nation's
museums - comprise a premier arts organization with over 450 annual
events. The College also hosts The California Institute for the
Preservation of Jazz, an initiative to archive jazz music in the
schools and community; and The Long Beach Opera and Musical Theatre
West, both professional companies in residence on campus.
