Legacy Lecture Series

The Legacy Lecture Series began in 1992. This series provides an opportunity for faculty to address the key experiences and values that have shaped their lives as educators and scholars-and to share their visions for the future. This is an occasion for celebrating and reflecting on what it means to be a teacher.

Traditionally, one Legacy Lecture has been given each fall and spring semester, and the entire University community is invited to attend along with friends and relatives of the Lecturer. Professor Helen Gilde from the Department of English delivered the first Legacy Lecture, and twenty-seven more have followed. The twenty-seventh Lecture was offered last November 2005, by Dr. Robert C. Maxson, President of California State University, Long Beach.  The 2006 Legacy Lecture recipient is Dr. Dee Abrahamse, Interim Provost/Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs.
