    (Memorandum of Understanding between the CSU and CFA)

  • One-year appointment (contingent if part-time) for lecturers who teach two consecutive semesters in an academic year in the same department and are reappointed to that department. Three-year appointments (contingent) for lecturers with six years of consecutive service in the same department.
  • Lecturers are hired in a Range (L, A, B, C, or D) and at a step within each range. Compensation is increased through a General Salary Increase (GSI) and Service Salary Step Increase (SSI).
  • Standard for receiving SSI is satisfactory performance and completion of 24 units in same department. Eligibility can be mid-year.
  • Lecturers who have no more SSI eligibility in their current range and have 5 or more years in their current range have the right to seek range elevation (moving from one salary range to a higher range). The CSULB Academic Senate has established the campus Range Elevation policy.
  • All lecturers are eligible for leaves of absence without pay for up to one semester duration. All lecturers are eligible for thirty days of paid maternity/paternity leave. All lecturers earn pro-rated sick leave.
  • Lecturers with at least a one-semester appointment for six units are eligible for benefits.  Enroll at Benefits Services BH-358.
