Dr. Kenneth R. Curtis earned a Ph.D. in African and Comparative World History from the University of Wisconsin and has been a member of the faculty at California State University, Long Beach since 1990.
Dr. Curtis has been a leading advocate of efforts at both the local and national level to develop a more global understanding of the human past, having served as a member of the Executive Committee of the World History Association and as a Faculty Consultant for the College Board. He is currently working as co-author on Voyages in World History (Houghton Mifflin, 2008), an introduction to the field for college undergraduates.
At CSULB, Dr. Curtis has served as Interim Executive Director for International Education and Global Engagement, playing a leadership role in organizing the first President’s Forum on International Human Rights, helping to coordinate the expansion of summer study abroad programs and facilitating new university agreements with Columbia, Brazil and India. Dr. Curtis has also served as Director of the Liberal Studies Program, is a long-term member of the Academic Senate, and is a past Chair of the General Education Governing Committee. In addition, he is a long-term member and past Chair of the International Education Committee, and he is the campus leader for “Shared Futures: General Education for Global Learning,” a program of the American Association of Colleges and Universities.
