Policy Statement - 95-02 NCAA Faculty Representative, Selection and Term of Office of

SELECTION AND TERM OF OFFICE OF 
NCAA FACULTY REPRESENTATIVE 

This Policy Statement was recommended by the Academic Senate on March 30, 1995 
and received the concurrence of the President on April 17, 1995.

1. TERM OF OFFICE OF FACULTY REPRESENTATIVE 

The term of office of the faculty representative shall be four years. After evaluation of the incumbent faculty representative, the Committee on Athletics may nominate this representative to the Academic Senate for no more than one additional term. 

2. SELECTION OF FACULTY REPRESENTATIVE 

The Committee on Athletics shall:

A. Distribute a prospectus of the position and solicit applications from tenured faculty members interested in the position. 

B. Evaluate the applications received from the faculty. 

C. Nominate a minimum of two faculty members to be considered by the Academic Senate, except when the incumbent is being renominated. The Academic Senate shall vote to recommend one or more of these nominees to the President of the University. 

D. Seek to have faculty members who represent the academic and athletic interests of the total University as well as persons who represent the cultural and gender diversity among those recommended for this position. 

3. OVERLAPPING TERM 

A new faculty representative shall be appointed by the end of the spring semester of the third year. This will allow the new faculty representative to become familiar with the duties of the office during the following year, before taking office.
