CERTIFICATION OF ACADEMIC EMPLOYEES TO CONTINUE EMPLOYMENT BEYOND AGE 70

An academic employee who wishes to continue employment beyond age 70 must do so in accord with the following procedures;

Process and Notification Dates

A.The certification year is the last academic year which begins before the employee reaches age 70.

B.The Provost and Senior Vice-President for Academic Affairs shall notify the employee in writing of the requirement to request certification of eligibility prior to May 15 of the year preceding the certification year and shall advise the employee that if he/she wishes to request certification, he/she must notify the Provost and Senior Vice-President for Academic Affairs in writing of his/her intent to request certification prior to October 1 of the certification year.

C.If the Provost and Senior Vice-President for Academic Affairs fails to notify the employee of the requirement to request certification by May 15 of the year preceding the certification year, the employee shall be granted certification of eligibility for one year, effective the beginning of the academic year following the certification year.

D.An academic employee requesting certification of eligibility shall choose either the RTP or the Periodic Evaluation of Tenured Faculty evaluation process. Prior to October 15 of the certification year, the employee shall submit a completed Professional Resume and supporting documentation, which shall include summaries of student evaluations. The initial choice of the evaluation process shall be final.

E.If the employee is notified by the Provost and Senior Vice-President for Academic Affairs but fails to request certification prior to October 1 of the certification year, he/she shall retire at the end of that academic year.

F.The Provost and Senior Vice-President for Academic Affairs is required to make a final decision by February 1.

G.If the decision is negative, the employee may appeal in writing to the President within twenty-one (21) calendar days. The President shall respond to the appeal in writing within twenty-one (21) calendar days.

H.Departments and Colleges/Schools shall establish appropriate deadlines so that the Provost and Senior Vice- President for Academic Affairs can receive the recommendations of the departments and colleges/schools not later than January 15.


Effective: Immediately, and through December 31, 1993 only.
