Assessment Committee Meeting Minutes
March 6, 2003

- The meeting was called to order at
2:00 PM

- The agenda for the day was approved.
- The secretary for the day was selected.
- The
2/20/03
meeting minutes were approved.
- Campus Accountability Goals
- Henriques discussed goals 3, 4, 5 of the Accountability Goals document.
- Discussion among membership ensued regarding this document. It was suggested that these goals be discussed on an annual basis.
- Saint-Germain suggested that committee should discuss assessment in the future reorganization plan before addressing assessment goals.
- Proposed Campus Reorganization
- Saint-Germain distributed various handouts and provided an update regarding campus reorganization. The handouts were Assessment Committee Charge; Assessment Committee Accountability Goals; Campus Assessment Committee Program Review Survey, Spring 2002; Proposed Organization Charts from Academic Senate; and the WASC Report.
- Saint-Germain reported that whichever organization changes take place they will be implemented during 03-04 and actual new organization structure will be ready by 04-05.
- Committee members provided comments concerning the role of assessment in the reorganization. What is the role and placement of the Assessment Committee in the proposed plans? Membership agreed that background is needed to understand campus assessment environment before creating a coherent campus plan.
- Forces that are driving changes for reorganization are WASC report, Campus self-study, Chancellor’s Office initiative, Program Review and Academic Affairs/Senate.
- Saint-Germain used the white board to design proposed reorganization re: Assessment Committee. Membership discussed the possibilities of where the committee should be in the proposed redesign. Numerous points where made: 1) How to integrate “assessment” into the “working documents” of the campus plan. 2) Develop campus assessment tools.
- Additional discussion of the structure of the Assessment Committee ensued.
- A model was proposed for having accountability in the assessment design.
Planning Program Review Assessment
- Henriques suggested committee membership should consist of department assessment coordinators. This would streamline the communication of assessment plans across all departments.
- Saint-Germain added that the reorganization proposal provides opportunities to have greater linkages with other campus resources. This results in having course and campus level coordination with technical expertise.
- Membership discussed future actions in this reorganization phase.
- Saint-Germain suggested to reissue assessment survey this spring and this will be discussed at next committee meeting
- For next meeting there will be discussion of the policy for 3E-final reports. Additionally, the first draft of the campus accountability goals survey will be discussed at the 3/20 meeting.
