Minutes of the Assessment Committee
February 7th, 2002
Present: Daugherty (Journalism), Henriques (Science Education; Chair), Novack (Institutional Research), Nummedal (Psychology; Assessment Coordinator), Reichard (Academic Affairs), Relleve-Caveness (Student Life and Development), Saint-Germain (Graduate Center for Public policy and Administration), Tewari (Testing and Evaluation Services), Whitney (Psychology)
1. As of the meeting, the remaining budget of the committee stood at $51,097.
- Discussed 4 travel grants that had been lost in campus mail. Two of the applications were for conferences that have now taken place, and thus are no longer eligible for award allocation. Following lively discussion, the committee decided that the Assessment Coordinator should be given the authority to award funds to the local Fullerton assessment conferences up to a total of $130 per person (equal to the enrollment fees). All who want to go to the conference will be funded.
- A sub-committee was formed consisting of Nummedal, Relleve-Caveness, Saint-Germain, & Whitney to review travel grant applications that have been received prior to the deadline. The meeting will be held at 3:00 in LIB-W room 526
- Policy Clarification: We will not award monies to the same individual to attend the same conference from both the Fall and Spring travel calls.
- The Accountability Goals survey was due on February 8th. As of February 7th, only 6 of 65 campus departments had returned completed forms. Add this to the learning curve: never distribute important documents just before winter break. The Accountability Goals survey will be re-distributed.
- The committee approved the purchase of 2 videotapes on assessment at a total cost of $500
2. Update on the Program Review Inventory draft
The committee discussed the distinction between program review and self-study. Self-study is the department’s contribution to the overall program review process. The draft will be modified to reflect department actions (i.e., self-study), not program review. Additional items were added.
3. The 2002 CSULB Assessment Retreat is coming! The dates: Thursday February 21st & Friday February 22nd
These minutes have not been approved.
Next meeting: March 7th
Respectfully submitted,
Dave Whitney
