Assessment Committee Meeting Minutes
March 29, 2001
Present: Cynar, Daugherty, Lacourse (Chair), McKay, Reichard, Saint-Germain, Tewari, Till, Weber, Whitney
-
Approved minutes of March 15th.
-
Nita Tewari will substitute for Susan Mulvaney for the remainder of the semester.
-
Report from the Assessment Coordinator.
- Saint-Germain distributed and discussed the proposed travel grant application form for spring and summer 2001 travel. The committee discussed merits of various limits for travel requests. The majority seemed to think between $750 and $1,000 would be the appropriate limit for this round of assessment-related travel requests.
- The Committee must establish funding priorities for the coming year. Should we fund Colleges and Department assessment-related requests over those of individual faculty? The Committee seemed to endorse this idea for next year, though a final decision has yet to be made.
-
Discussion of Quality Undergraduate Education "QUE"
- Weber discussed the QUE initiative, a national project of faculty at selected four-year public institutions and their partner two-year colleges who are establishing draft, voluntary discipline-based standards or student learning outcomes for student learning in the undergraduate major. Visit the website for more information: http://www.gsu.edu/que
-
Discussion of the latest revision of the white paper on assessment
- Several recommendations for improvement were made on the latest revision. Major changes to the draft were accomplished by eliminating recommendations 3 — 5. These recommendations had suggested the Assessment Committee and Assessment Coordinator would review and coordinate campus assessment plans. Such actions are largely beyond the charge of the Committee
