Assessment Committee Meeting Minutes
September 14, 2000
Present: Henriques, Lacourse, McKay, Reichard, Relleve-Caveness, Saint-Germain, Till, Whitney, Wolfinbarger
- Minutes of August 25th were approved.
- Report of the Assessment Coordinator, Saint-Germain.
- Presented proposed assessment budget for 2000-2001, which was approved.
- Although Colleges of Liberal Arts and Health & Human Services have been active in assessment for some time, other Colleges are increasingly represented in assessment grant applications.
- 14 assessment grants received funding from our last call, totaling $77,668
- Discussion centered on the best use of the remaining $15,000
- To better reflect the interests of faculty, College-level retreats may be preferable to University-wide retreats.
- The Committee discussed the advantages of providing a College-level competition for assessment funds. Colleges could request funds for retreats, speakers, consultant activity, or other assessment purposes.
- Discussion of long-term goals and strategic planning for the Assessment Committee.
- Consideration of WASC request for input regarding sources of information on such issues as "faculty collaboration, interaction with students, time on task" etc. Several sources of such information were considered, including number of team-taught courses, departmental policies governing office hours, co-authored presentations and scholarly papers, student mentoring and advising programs (including McNair programs), SOAR, faculty governance, and faculty development programs.
- The Assessment Committee meeting scheduled for September 28th is cancelled. The next meeting will be October 12th.
