SUBJECT: Request for Proposals for Summer/Fall 2004 Assessment Project Grants

The Assessment Committee invites proposals for support through the Summer/Fall 2004 Assessment Project Grants Program. This Request for Proposals describes the purpose and scope of the award program, award eligibility, the types of awards available, funding priorities, expectations for carrying out responsibilities of the award, and the required format for preparing and submitting a proposal.

Purpose and Scope of the Assessment Project Grants Program. The purpose of this program is to provide support to departments, academic programs, and other units for the development and/or implementation of unit-wide plans for assessment of student outcomes. Proposed projects should emphasize collaboration among unit members. Those involving a critical mass of members of a college, department, program, or unit are especially encouraged.

Who may apply? All full-time and part-time faculty as well as professional staff and administrators are eligible to submit proposals. Faculty members participating in the early (FERP) or pre-retirement (PRTB) programs also are eligible to apply for awards if the results can be implemented in the period during which they are employed by the University.

Available Support. Proposals may include requests for the following types of support:

. Summer/Fall 2004 contract for services or Academic Year additional employment (maximum $2500 per faculty member, $7500 per team).

. Assigned time awards for Fall 2004.

. Supplementary support, such as student assistants, materials, equipment, supplies and services, and service contracts for off campus consultants.

Funding priorities . For this round of awards, the Assessment Committee has set the following funding priorities:

http://www.csulb.edu/senate/committies/assessment/accountability/role/surveyl

. projects that further work on the assessment component of an academic unit's Self Study for Program Review and/or accreditation. Please see the Program Review and Academic Planning Website:

http://www.csulb.edu/senate/councils

. projects submitted by those who have not received prior assessment funding, and those with matching funds from their college, department, or other source.

. all other projects.

Each proposal will receive full consideration, so please do not hesitate to apply. Examples of projects funded in the past are available at the Assessment web site. When looking at these projects, however, please be aware that funding priorities for this program have changed over the years.
