The Campus Academic Calendar Committee
The Campus Academic Calendar Committee shall in the collaborative development of the CSULB Academic Calendar. The charge of the Campus Academic Calendar Committee shall include, but not limited to, the following:
- Review and provide feedback on calendar options drafted by the Academic affairs Office designee which comply with mandatory Chancellor’s Office System-wide Requirements and Academic Calendar Norms and Definitions regarding: minimum/maximum instructional days and working day; year round operation; Title 5 requirements as specified in Section 42800 that meet the CSU pay-period certification requirement; Enrollment Planning and reporting requirements; and the impact of the Campus Academic Calendar on retirement and benefits. The calendar shall also include date not required by the Chancellor’s Office but useful to faculty and staff for planning purposes, e.g. grades-due dates and individual summer session dates.
- Consult, through Campus Academic Calendar Committee representatives, with the Academic Senate, Associated Students, Inc., Student Services, Staff Council, Athletics Department, Commencement Office, the Center for Faculty Development, and other organizations with recurring campus events to query and seek feedback for calendar development. Incorporate the feedback obtained into the development of a three-year project campus academic calendar that meets the requirement and needs of the campus community, to the extent possible, with regard to feeder school academic calendars, students employment opportunities, remediation requirements, acceleration of meeting major requirements for graduation, and showing sensitivity to student needs, campus community activities, faculty and staffing considerations, and holiday observances.
Continue to evaluate and reassess the implications and needs of the campus community and communicated clearly and in a timely manner the outcomes and challenges regarding the development of the Campus Academic Calendar.
Suggested Process and Timeline
By end September/early October
CAC consults with and solicits suggestions and concerns from campus offices and share feedback with Academic Affairs Office designee responsible for drafting the Campus Academic Calendar.
Mid-November
CAC reviews draft academic calendars provided by Academic Affairs Office designee and provides feedback on suggested options.
December
CAC reviews final Academic Calendar and forwards to Executive Committee of the Academic Senate for review and recommendation.
January
Executive Committee of the Academic Senate reviews final Academic Calendar, forwards it to the President, via the Vice Provost for Planning & Budgets & Director of Strategic Planning, with a recommendation for final approval.
