Cynthia Schultheis, the Assistant Director of the Center, has been educated in the LBUSD including CSULB where she earned her B. A. in American Studies with an emphasis in the Arts and the Media in Society in 1991. Her Masters degree was in 1994 in U.S. History, with a minor in Comparative Cultures. She has taught U.S. History, Women's History and Comparative Cultures at local community colleges for over 5 years before coming back permanently to CSULB.

    

She has been working and studying ("The truly educated never graduate") on campus since 1988, starting as a work-study student, then student assistant, supplemental instructor and finally as a graduate assistant. While a lecturer, she also held temporary positions in over 15 different departments (from Theater Arts to the Pyramid) and can be a walking resource for students. She enjoys helping students with their academic endeavors, problems, and sharing ideas about academia in general. She is enthusiastic about multicultural art and has contributed to the MCC's gallery of cultural art and objects herself as well as initiating art projects at the MCC (the "Peace Tree" located in the stairwell of F03 and the "Peace & Support Flag for the U.S. Troops on this site, in the Conference Room and which is linked with other sites that our troops can access)

    

Since arriving at the Multicultural Center, she has initiated Peace Art Project, such as the Peace Tree and Peace & Support Flag (link on website, Remembrance Tree for Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and has served on the Arts Council of Long Beach. She continues to initiate other projects, such as a future cultural mural in the hallway leading to the Center.

Cynthia is University 100 instructor, served three years as a Commissioner on the President's Commission on the Status of Wome, currently a member on the Center for Peace & Social Justice (link on website). She also is a Reader for the Writing Proficiency exams (WPE).
