Language and Writing Tutoring

The LAC has two free Language and Writing (LWT) tutoring programs to help you with conversation skills, pronunciation, vocabulary, idioms, grammar and writing skills.


Which Format is Right for You?

Conversation Lab

The Conversation Lab is a great place to practice your English with a native speaker. It is a relaxed, informal, and safe place for you to ask questions or practice speaking English. Our friendly tutors will help you with pronunciation and grammar, and will even explain American idioms, slang, and culture.

You do not need to make an appointment to use the Conversation Lab. It’s free, so just bring your student ID and your questions. We are here to help.

 

Operating Hours and Tutor Schedule

  • Conversation Lab is not open during the summer. We encourage students to volunteer (http://voala.org/involved/contact.htm) at various local non-profit programs as a way to give back and to enrich their English learning experience.
  • Fall operation starts on September 9, 2013.. Our normal operation hours will be from Monday to Thursday, 10am-5pm. Please check back in September to see our tutor’s schedule.

Language and Writing Tutoring (LWT) Program

This program will help you prepare for the Writing Proficiency Exam (WPE), succeed in a Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR) course and other writing-intensive courses, or improve your English language skills so you can succeed in your studies.

You'll get help with writing, speaking, or listening that is specifically designed to meet your needs.  Our goal is to help you learn how to spot your errors and correct them on your own, so you are able to speak and write English better.

Language and Writing Tutoring in the summer is fee-based and by appointment only. It will be provided

  • between June 3-July 11 (for first summer session and July WPE)
  • between July 15-August 15 (for third summer session and September WPE)
  • You can choose to attend just one session or both sessions.
