Learning
Assistance Center (LAC)
The university environment
is a challenging one. Academic demands sometimes get the best
of you. So, whether you are a student struggling to pass a
class or a "Straight -A" student who wants to stay that
way, we offer a variety of services to help you succeed. The
key to success is often knowing which service you need. Click
on the links below to find out more.
Do you know what your "Learning Style" is? Knowing can help you become a more successful student. Learn to study smarter, not harder. Our professional Learning Skills Specialists work one-on-one with students to help them develop effective learning strategies. They also conduct a series of free workshops throughout the semester to show students how to make the most of their study time and effort.

Even the most committed student can need a little extra help. Tutoring can provide the help you need to complete a difficult course. The LAC has several different tutoring formats to meet your specific needs. Our trained and certified tutors conduct individual, group and drop-in sessions in most subjects, and online tutoring is offered in select subjects.

Any college freshman can tell you that some courses are more difficult than others. Supplemental Instruction (SI) is offered for some of these more demanding courses. SI Leaders help students by emphasizing study strategies and critical thinking skills. You have to enroll in a section of SI with a target course through MyCSULB.edu. Find out which courses offer SI by clicking here. |
For the thousands of CSULB students who speak English as a second language, coursework and tests like the Writing Proficiency Exam (WPE) can be difficult. ESL tutoring is offered in our walk-in Conversation Lab and through the referral based ESL Specialist Program. Both programs focus on developing useful English language skills to help students succeed in the university.
