Health Insurance/ Immunizations

The California State University and U.S. Department of State require that all CSULB exchange students have adequate health insurance coverage for the duration of their programs.

Purchase of Mandatory CSULB Health Insurance Policy
The Center for International Education (CIE) requires that all exchange students purchase the CSULB Health Insurance Plan.
Please Note
:
this is a condition of exchange program participation and no exceptions are permitted.
Since the online application form requires a U.S. address, students applying from overseas should use the following address and update it with the insurance company once a U.S address is established.

CIE Check-In Session

Immunizations
Please bring a copy (in English if possible) of your immunization records.
During a CIE Check-In session, you will meet with a nurse from CSULB Student Health Services (SHS) who will review your immunization record.  Students requiring immunizations as determined by SHS will be charged additional fees.

The following immunizations may be required:

  • If you are 18 years or younger on your first day of classes, you are required to have been vacinated for Measles/Mumps/Rubella and Hepatitis B.
  • If you are 19 years or older on your first day of classes, you are required to have been vacinated for Measles/Mumps/Rubella
  • If you are going to live in the CSULB on-campus residence halls, you are required to have been vacinated for meningitis

Tuberculosis (TB) test/chest X-ray may be required.  This will be determined at the time of your visit to SHS. You may provide SHS with documentation of a TB test and/or Chest X-ray from your doctor, if completed within the past 3 months. Students will be charged additional fees if a TB test is required.

During Check-In, Student Health Services (SHS) will provide immunizations to students as required by the University.  SHS will charge a fee for any immunizations, so it is to your advantage to bring your immunization records or have the required immunizations prior to arrival.  For additional information on the CSULB immunization requirements, please see www.csulb.edu/shs.
