Transfer Students
CSULB welcomes transfer students from many kinds of institutions
of higher education. Transfer students arrive from California Community
Colleges, other California State Universities, the University of
California campuses, private institutions, out-of-state colleges
and universities, and colleges and universities from all over the
world. Future transfer students who are in the process of
or have applied to CSULB are welcome to make reservations for the
Academic Advising Center's Future Student workshops held approximately
twice each month in the Center. The purpose of the workshops is
to assist future and returning students in understanding how their
transferred work will, most efficiently, apply to their baccalaureate
degree and to assist transfer students in their transition to CSULB.

Three Certification
Processes
The California Community
College Certification Plan for Transfer to the CSU - The CSU recognizes
the General Education (GE) courses taught in the California Community
College (CCC) and a few other institutions as meeting CSULB particular
GE objectives. For more information, search the CSU Mentor
web site.
Another certification
process applies to students transferring from one CSU campus to
another. Students who have completed all or partial lower division
General Education (GE) requirements at another CSU will be recognized
as certified for lower division requirements at CSULB. If
CSU transfers have completed their upper division GE requirements
at their respective campus, they may petition to have that course
work meet the CSULB upper division GE requirement.
Intersegmental GE Transfer Curriculum
(IGETC) - The IGETC plan is a General Education (GE) program community
college transfer students can use to fulfill lower-division GE requirements
in either the CSU or UC system. Find more information at the

Analysis of Academic
Progress Information
There are two evaluation
forms that describe transfer work. There are students who
may have been at CSULB for along period or who may now be returning
to CSULB that have a Summary of Transfer Credit.
Currently, students who
entered CSULB in the past few years have an Analysis of Academic
Progress. The Analysis of Academic Progress is also used as
a graduation check and is considered, at graduation time, the "official"
University document.
Students who need assistance
with understanding the Analysis of Academic Progress should make
an appointment with an advisor in the Academic Advising Center.
Articulation of
Courses
If a course is articulated
it may be used "in lieu of" the University course for
all programs. Nearly all departments at CSULB participate
in developing articulation agreements.

Different
CSULB rules apply to transfer students depending on when and where
the transfer(s) took place. In Fall 2003, a new CSULB policy
that impacts transfer students will be in place. Specifically,
transfer students must be admitted to a major, students applying
to majors that are not impacted will be admitted to the University
if they meet all admission requirements, students applying to impacted
majors must file applications during the initial filing period (October
1 - November 30) and must meet all supplemental admission criteria
for the designated major. Further, students who do not qualify for
admissions to the preferred impacted major may be admitted to an
alternate on the application, otherwise they will not be admitted
to the University. Students who are admitted to non-impacted majors
may, after entering the University, apply for a change to a given
impacted major only once. There is no limit on requests to
change to a major that is not impacted. CSULB strives to make
the transfer process as clear and uncomplicated as possible. Please
